2. install more ram, crucial.com can scan your system for upgrades
3. disk defragment
4. better hard drive with faster RPM and higher cache
5. clean inside of your comp with compressed air, just incase there is excess dust build up
*sigh*
If you’ve uninstalled everything you didn’t want, cleaned up your drives and your computer is still slo..
chances are the more crap you install to CLEAN your computer, the slower your computer is becoming.
Almost all of the time you install a program, it adds a shortcut to desktop and usually automatically starts up on log in.
The more crap you install, the more crap automatically starts up, the slower your computer is. Half the time you don’t even know the programs ARE running.
Here’s a more helpful solution to your problem.
I’m assuming you’re with XP, if you’re with Vista, let me know.
1. Click Start, click Run, type msconfig in the Open box, and then click OK.
2. On the General tab, click Selective Startup.
3. Under Selective Startup, click to clear the following check boxes: Process SYSTEM.INI File
Process WIN.INI File
Load Startup Items
4. On the Services tab, click to select the Hide All Microsoft Services check box, and then click Disable All.
5. Click OK, and then click Restart.
This stops all programs from starting on startup. You will notice how much damn faster your computer is running. Now you can pick and choose what programs you want enabled.
To that burrito guy above… What in the world would buying new ink cartiridges do!?!? *completely confused*
Are You Sure if your AV, spyware, and malware are up to date?
If NO—-update all of them and run a complete scan (I would recommend AVIRA ANTIVIR Personal Edition – Good antivirus)
If YES!—Try to check your system, maybe you are running low on your memory (RAM), or you’re running low on hardrive space, or even you have a slow processor…..
If that is resolved and still your system slows up consider running disk defragmenter and disk clean up…..
If that is resolved and still your computer is still slowing down I recommend that you reformat your PC…
Hope i CAN be of assistance
Take care and God Bless
Do some maintenance. If you have no virus issues, try this:
1) Delete any unused or unnecessary programs and files. These may be taking up space, memory and resources, thus slowing your computer. Also delete your cashe/ temp files, empty your recycle bin, clear your internet browsing history, etc.
2) Defrag your hard drive. Fragmentation severely degrades the speed, performance and reliability of your computer. Try Diskeeper 2008, you can download 30-day trial-ware at http://www.diskeeper.com
3) Registry cleaner: Your registry holds all the information regarding updates, installs, uninstalls etc. so this needs to be cleaned. This will optimize and remove redundant or unwanted items.
4) Have you downloaded a lot of stuff? Check your memory, how much do you have left? If its less than 15% get some more. How much Ram do you have?
If you are using WInXP, try to defragment the hard drives and run a scan disk(a full scan coz if your HDD has bad sectors it will be SLOW AS HELL).
And use high performance Virus guards like NOD32, Avast, AntiVir, even the free versions are good.
Please don’t use different software for Spywear, malware, viruses. Or use a tweaked up WinXP version, which you can download.
Okay there could be MANY problems with that.
1.) too much programs installed on your computer. It runs alot faster without alot of programs running or being installed on your computer.
2.) You might need more memory. More RAM is needed because there maybe too many things on your comp and not enough space.
3.) If you have DSL or Dial up…your computer is gonna be SLOW whether you like it or not.
4.) You might have worms or even a virus without you knowing. Those DEFINITELY slow your computer down.
